John Amleder: Jacques Garcia

CCS Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris

A project by Amleder especially created for the Centre's main exhibition space: he has given the production entirely over to the renowned French interior decorator Jacques Garcia. The exhibition finally brings to life an idea the artist has nurtured for a long time to question the notions of interior design and appropriation using ornamentation as a conceptual medium. In the Project room "Nieves library", over a hundred artists chosen as guest publishers all have in common a hand-made approach to their work in photography, illustration or graphics and have contributed to making up the collection.

comunicato stampa

The Centre culturel suisse is pleased to present a bold project by JOHN ARMLEDER especially created for the Centre’s main exhibition space.

The exhibition finally brings to life an idea the artist has nurtured for a long time to question the notions of interior design and appropriation using ornamentation as a conceptual medium.

John Amleder has given the production of the project entirely over to the renowned French interior decorator JACQUES GARCIA, whose creative interiors range from Zen minimalism to neo gothic excess, the exoticism of Egypt revisited and the opulence of Napoleon III.

Jacques Garcia has created for the artist an authentic and meticulously detailed neo-bourgeois apartment containing an entrance hall, dining room, lounge and bedroom.

Here, this essentially private space becomes public with chinoiserie and assorted ornamentation set beside work from John Armleder, George Condo and Helmut Newton.

John Armleder believes that a room is finished conceptually before it is even produced and his work here is clearly the production of this installation by Jacques Garcia following the principles of delegation, which the artist holds dear.
