The group exhibition ''Usable Pasts, Concerted Forgettings'' looks at the paradoxical emphasis placed on national identity and the constructed character of national traditions and historiography. The exhibition focuses on the organization of collective cultural memory and the techniques that are used to preserve and present our recollections thereby influencing the perception of (cultural) identity.

Opening Reception & Afterparty

Saturday 6 September 2008, 21:00 - 03.00 hrs
Location: Auditorium, LAB111
Admission free

With artists TokTek, FNNNN, DNK DJ unit, Lawrence Dubrovich

Carolien Gehrels (Amsterdam Alderperson; portfolio Art and Culture) and Bouwe Olij (Mayor of the district Amsterdam Old-West) will officially open SPS's new cultural platforms to the public. We hope you will join us for the inauguration and opening reception from 21:00 hrs onwards. For programme details read more.

As part of the opening celebrations, the dutch sound artist, TokTek will create a unique piece of ‘organically processed’ improvisation on his hacked electronics from 21.45 hrs. Anything within reach including the audience is thrown into the real-time mix for a gripping set that tests the limits of awareness.

Enjoy a night of twisted vinyl sounds and visuals from the all girl dj/vj collective FNNNN. The line-up combining visual art and music celebrates the opening of the exhibition ‘Usable pasts, Concerted Forgettings', SMART Cinema and the opening of cafe/restaurant LAB111.

DNK DJ-Unit - consisting of DJ Masterfader, DJ De Vries BV and VJ Foo - will be playing in LAB111.
