New Exhibitions

- Pierre Vadi, Bleu Ciel (Blue Sky)
(Born in 1966. Lives and works in Geneva. Prizewinner of the Manor 2001 Cultural Prize)
Pierre Vadi's work uses games and paradoxes to gently disrupt received ideas. On Mamco's first floor, in the Camera Candida, a fresco painting defines the contours of a universe in which the pyrex bubbles of L'Argent (Silver) mix with the whole series of Cartes géographiques (geographical maps).
The art gallery Attitudes presents other works of Pierre Vadi from 26 March to 11 May (4 rue du Beulet, Geneva).

- Monsengwo Kejwamfi dit Peintre Moke, " Grand Maître de la peinture zaïroise " (Monsengwo Kejwamfi so-called Painter Moke " Great Master of Art Painting from Zaire "
(1950-2001. Democratic Republic of the Congo)
Belonging to the same generation as Cheri Samba, Moke has developed, since 1965, a so-called "popular" art, taking advantage of the favourable economic and social situation of the region. His paintings brush boldly and without concession a satirical portrait of Zaire's middle class population. Moke has become a "painter/reporter of urbanity", inspired by scenes of everyday life on the streets and in the bars of Kinshasa.
This exhibition is realised in collaboration with André Magnin and the C.A.A.C. The Pigozzi Collection, Geneva.

- Clarisse Hahn, Hôpital (Hospital)/Ovidie, 2000-2002
(Born in 1973. Lives and works in Paris)
Confronting sequences of two full-length films that she has realised, Clarisse Hahn's installation deals with our relationship to the body. Hôpital stages the geriatric department of an institution in which deteriorating bodies are treated with technical gestures, extenuating the violence and pain of extreme situations. Ovidie shows the filming of a pornographic film, with young bodies walking about unashamedly naked. Extreme physical closeness is linked to a necessary emotional withdrawal inherent to such professional situations.

- Liam Gillick, Ann Lee You Proposes, 2001
Ann Lee, model of cartoons purchased from the Japanese firm Kworks, has become the main character of the project No Ghost, Just a Shell, initiated in 2000 by Philippe Parreno and Pierre Huyghe. After the presentation of the videos of these two French artists, Anywhere out of the World and Two Minutes out of Time, followed by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's Annlee in Anzen Zone, Mamco displays the new adventures of this mauve silhouette with almond eyes

- Brigitte Cornand (cycle of film projections)
For several years, French director Brigitte Cornand has produced documentaries on artists of her generation which she films with a fresh, familiar quality of attention, far from the methods of traditional reporting. Mamco proposes a retrospective exhibition of these films that provide an intimist history of French contemporary art.

Collective JukeBox 4.0, 1996-2002
Collective JukeBox is an audio co-operative device that gathers today almost 500 artists and non artists. It has taken several forms since it was initiated in 1996 (compilation, grouping and intervention…) and will be presented at Mamco as a juke-box, allowing visitors to listen to the contributions created specially for the project.

Michel Aubry, Le Salon de musique, 1989 (The Music Room, 1989)
(Born in 1959. Lives and works in Paris)
Since his student years at the Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts (1977-1985), Michel Aubry creates objects incorporating sounds and using of cabinet work's techniques. Located within a plywood alcove, The Music Room is a space entirely dedicated to listening. Sounds have been devised to fit in the benches, themselves integrated in the partitions. However, no sound is audible, as it is represented by five clarinets of Launeddas, a triple clarinet of Sardaigne, and a wax moulding of a geometric figure defined after the Sardinian musical codes.
