Digging the Channel/Mediating the Channel
Digging the Channel/Mediating the Channelbrings together 20 interdisciplinary artists, 10 from the Mobius Artists Group (J. Speare, J. Szabo, M. B. Tittemore, M. Morgan, T. Plsek, M. Kohout, C. Nolan, Y.Peet, N.Adams, M.Arsem) and 10 from Zadar, Croatia (S.Sterle, D.Oki, J.Zanki, B.Gagic, B.Kajmak, D.Vidovic ...) and its neighboring regions, to emphasize and critique the relationship among public works, the environment, civic and media discourse, and art. Two channels of water, one that will be resurrected, the other being reimagined for the future (Fort Point Channel), are the points of departure for artistic work that explored and will continue to explore the historical and contemporary contexts of these sites. The analogies, histories, and contrasts between the two cities have stimulated, and will continue to do so, a wide range of artistic responses in this exchange. The participating artists will create temporary work, both physical and conceptual, in order to engage the imagination, memory, and participation of the Zadar and Boston communities in the public debates that center on these public spaces. The Croatian artists who produced work in Zadar will present a report on their work done as part of the first half of this exchange.

Mobius seeks proposals for original, experimental work in the performing, media, and visual arts, particularly work which falls outside the traditionally defined art forms. Mobius is interested in work that cannot be easily presented elsewhere because of spatial and technical needs or because of unusual or controversial content. We are looking for work which is conceived and realized by an artist or group, which is directed toward discovering the unknown, which is at the boundaries of the current state of performance, media and visual arts. Mobius is generally not interested in the interpretation of scripts and scores. It is our hope that the work presented at Mobius will be stimulating to both the theory and practice of the local community of artists, and will display the artistÕs desire to enrich the vocabularies of art making.
