Time Out for the Opposition (The Volume of Response in the Space Provided)

Taking (other) Sides (Part V)

May 22, Wednesday and May 26, Sunday, 17.00 hrs.

Mohammed Souied, Nightfall (Lebanon, 2001, 70 minutes)

In the seventies a group of Lebanese men fought with the Palestinian resistance movement "Fatah". After the Israeli invasion of '82 many of this so-called "student squad" were dead or had fled from the country. The few that were left remained in Lebanon, isolated with their memories.

Knud Vesterskov and David Wojnarowicz, By the Dawn's Early Light (Denmark, 1993, 77 minutes)

On the road again with the late American artist and agent provocateur David Wojnerowicz who escorts us on a tour of the disturbed American psychic landscape. "David Wojnarowicz has caught the age-old voice of the road, the voice of the traveller, the outcast, the thief, the whore, the same voice that was heard in Villon's Paris and the Rome of Petronius."-William Burroughs

May 29, Wednesday, 17.00 hrs.

Alexander Kluge's Six works from "Prime Time" (Germany, 1995-2001, 90 minutes)

Im Sturm der Zeit (1995), Triebwerkhusten (1996), Hinrichtung eines Elefanten (2000), Altar of Madness (2001), Uberleben Unwahrscheinlich (2001) and 9 Chore der Engel (2000)

Another selection of new television work from the tireless father of the new German cinema: Kluge provides us with a panoply of time out metaphors: Christo's wrapping of the Reichstag, the vacuum of scientific development, the life of that most symbolic beast and biggest mammal (the elephant), weekend thrill-kill drag racing all the way to that biggest time out (and grandest opposition) of all, the realm of the angels.
