Untitled #223, sound installation

comunicato stampa

Francisco López (Madrid, 1964) presents the sound installation Untitled #223, a project created specifically for one of the Museum’s most unusual spaces and its particular acoustic effects: the metal interior corridor located on the top floor of the Nouvel Building. In this area, barely lit for the exhibition, the artist will install a sound system for visitors to experience the 8-minute piece. The installation creates a virtual sonic atmosphere with extreme contrasts; in order to do so, López draws from the metallic surfaces of the corridor’s floor, walls and ceiling, as well as the space’s peculiar measurements.

Francisco López is one of the most internationally renowned Spanish artists in the world of sound art and experimental music. His experience in sound creation and field recordings spans twenty-five years, during which time he has developed an entirely personal and iconoclastic audio world that explores the limits of perception and searches to broaden sensory and spiritual experience through sound. He has produced hundreds of concerts, projects in field recordings and sound installations in fifty countries on five continents. One hundred fifty recording companies throughout the world have released his sound installations, forming an extensive catalog that includes collaborations with more than one hundred international artists in live and studio recordings.

López has received an honorable mention at the Ars Electrónica Festival on two occasions and, recently, first prize at the 1st Sound Art Contest "Broadcasting Art," co-organized by Radio 3’s "Fluido Rosa" on RNE and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC).
