De Chiara Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the group show Necessary Fictions, a group exhibition of works on paper by 20 artists from California, New York, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Australia and Great Britain.

While the artists approach drawing in diverse ways, they each celebrate the immediacy and directness of drawing to unlock pseudo-fantastical realities. These works range from explorations and notations to formally resolved works on paper.

The artists infuse elements of fiction and narrative with personal self-discovery and shared common experience. The parallel spaces revealed in these works link our individual and collective memories, our conscious and sub-conscious, our hopes and fears. Their embodiment of hybrid reality makes them necessary fictions.

Opening Reception: Friday, June 21st, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Gallery hours: Tuesday - Saturday 11:00-6:00 p.m.
