Treasures of the Ottoman Sultans

The exposition comprises remarkable works of the Turkish Art from the funds of the famous Topkapi Palace, and was organized after the Council of Europe has proclaimed the Turkish city Istanbul to be "a cultural capital of Europe of 2010". On view masterpieces of jewellery, interior utensils, items of defensive and military weaponry, and refined artworks of Islamic calligraphy, which excelled during the Ottoman era.

The exhibition project was organized after the Council of Europe has proclaimed the Turkish city Istanbul to be "a cultural capital of Europe of 2010". Its exposition comprises remarkable works of the Turkish Art from the funds of the famous Topkapi Palace.

The Topkapi Palace, erected in the XVth century (1459–1460) on the order of the conqueror of Byzantine Constantinople, Sultan Mehmed II, in the most beautiful place of the captured city, is one of the most popular and worth of visiting palace-museums in the world.

Visitors will see masterpieces of jewellery, interior utensils, served as decorations for the Sultan’s rooms, items of defensive and military weaponry, executed on the order of the Turkish Sultans or granted to them as gift tributes. Items of particular attention are refined artworks of Islamic calligraphy, which excelled during the Ottoman era. Most part of the presented exhibits is inscribed with the titles of their imperial owners and reveals some interesting facts from their history of life. The exhibition explores the role of Turkish Sultans as great warriors and statesmen, and collectors and connoisseurs of art as well.

The exposition, featuring several thematic sections, includes unique artworks from the treasury of the powerful Osmanic Empire. The exhibition sections - "Military", "Symbols of power", "Personal belongings", "Arts and patronage", "Crown princes", "Harem", "Daily life" - present Sultans’ paraphernalia, ceremonial kaftans, headwear, writing utensils, remarkable tableware made of porcelain copper and silver, regalia, arms and armour, paintings and graphic works, jewellery items, accessories, belonged to harem's residents.

The project, comprising such a quantity of Turkish works of art, reveals the richness of artistic and cultural heritage of Turkey. It is going to become a great historical event within political and social life of our country

Opening days & hours
The Moscow Kremlin’s territory and museums open daily, except Thursdays, from 10:00 to 17:00. The Armoury Chamber has seances at 10:00, 12:00 , 14:30, 16:30.
Ticket offices
If you want to visit the Kremlin and its museums on your own you can purchase tickets in the ticket offices located at the Kutafiya Tower, in Aleksandrovsky Sad (the Aleksandrov Gardens), the Armoury Chamber and Cathedral Square.
Ticket offices are open daily, except Thursdays, from 9:30 to 16:30.
