La parola 'entfernung', titolo di molte opere di Danke, significa al tempo stesso 'distanza' e 'rimozione', concetti fondamentali nella sua tecnica cosi' come nella sua poetica. In una serie a cui lavora da anni, i soggetti esistono attraverso la propria assenza, percepibili soltanto per i segni che lasciano.

La parola “entfernung”, titolo di molte
opere di Raphael Danke, significa al
tempo stesso “distanza” e “rimozione”,
concetti fondamentali nella sua tecnica
così come nella sua poetica. In una
serie a cui lavora da anni, i soggetti
esistono attraverso la propria assenza,
percepibili soltanto per i segni che la-
sciano.
Per realizzarla l’artista seziona
e ricompone pagine di riviste di moda,
rimuovendo i soggetti delle fotografie,
solitamente modelle in posa, e trasfor-
mando le immagini preesistenti in in-
decifrabili astrazioni; queste sembrano
alludere agli aspetti più oscuri delle
dinamiche del desiderio, ma anche
dell’attuale società dei consumi.
Nella mostra In Controluce questi
lavori sono installati intorno alla scul-
tura di cartone Prisma, costituendone
idealmente le colorate sfaccettature.
Il 24 settembre avverrà un’azione per-
formativa in cui la danzatrice Victoria
Roth interagisce con la scultura, met-
tendo in scena un confronto tra corpo e
oggetto. Tracce di questa performance
rimarranno visibili nel corso della mo-
stra, costituendone parte integrante.
Completano il progetto alcuni collage
in cui frammenti di immagini di balle-
rini esplodono in vertiginose nuvole di
tulle, scarpette, mani e edifici, trasfor-
mandoli in qualcosa di effimero e
immateriale.

The word “entfernung” is the title of
many of Raphael Danke’s works. It
combines the meaning of “distance”
and “removal”, which are fundamental
concepts behind both his technique and
his poetic vision. In a series he has been
working on for some years, the subjects
exist through their own absence, and
can be perceived only through the traces
they leave. The artist creates these
works by cutting up and reassembling
pages from fashion magazines, remov-
ing the subjects of the photographs,
which are normally posing models,
and transforming the existing images
into inscrutable abstractions.
They
appear to allude to the darker side of
the mechanisms of desire, but also
of our present consumer society.
In the In Controluce exhibition, these
works form the background for the
Prisma cardboard sculpture, imaginar-
ily constituting its colourful facets. On 24
September there will be a performance
in which the dancer Victoria Roth will
engage with the sculpture, creating a
dynamic interaction between body and
object. Traces of this performance will
remain visible throughout the exhibi-
tion, thus forming an integral part of it.
The project also includes some collages
in which fragments of pictures of
dancers erupt in explosive clouds of
tulles, ballet shoes, hands, and build-
ings, transforming them into some-
thing ephemeral and immaterial.
