comunicato stampa

Muriel Guepin gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition by artists Everett Aison, Matthew Conradt, and Jeanne Verdoux entitled "Return us to Ourselves". Their work will be on view at the gallery from September 25 through November 7th. Opening Reception will be on Saturday September 25 from 6:30 to 9 pm.

Everett Aison uses watercolour and ink to create sketches of people he observes in public places in New York City, capturing shifting moods and expressions of people who cross our paths everyday - but who we often choose to ignore. He explains that, "I sit and watch people for hours. Their human complexities have served as my inspiration for creating drawings, stories and screenplays". He draws and paints with the hope that he may induce viewers to look differently and "inspire them to create their own stories."

Matthew Conradt works with mixed media, making paper transfer on mylar of decrepit cities, deserted landscape or unsettling interiors. He seeks to "show the disparities between the realities of the country and the perceptions we show ourselves. What emerges is an American counter-narrative that is steeped in contradictions."

Using New Yorker magazine subscription cards as canvasses, Jeanne Verdoux has been observing and drawing random people traveling on the New York subway. These small black and white pen ink drawings explore human nature as well as attitudes, trends, and seasons. All together, they portray the city and express Verdoux' unique perception of New Yorkers' day to day life.

Using different medium techniques and style, these artists reveal human diversities, complexities and contradictions while inviting us to look to others and more importantly into ourselves.
