BROOKLYN, NY- The Martinez Gallery is pleased to announce an Installation conceived by curator Antonio Zaya and designed by Marleen Kaptein, a sneak preview show spotlighting work from six leading graffiti artists who will have solo shows here in the new year.
'Exit Entrance,' which opens in time to tread both sides of the New Year, will ring out the old and bring in the new with works by Bama, Case 2, Coco 144, Flint 707, Tracy 168 and Tyke.

'Exit Entrance,' which will have 20 - 100 works by each of the artists, is a chance for these artists to warm up for their individual exhibitions, and to give the art viewing public a glimpse of what to expect in months to come. These six masters all have more than a century of experience between them at the vanguard of graffiti art, masters all of the unique and powerful public language that is graffiti, will have a chance to show at once the universality and mutability of their constantly evolving forms.

Martinez Gallery has had the privilege of working with the five New York graffiti giants in this group for decades, and with Los Angeles based Tyke since 1999, watching their work -- and their iconic role in the art history of New York City - develop and mature. With 'Exit Entrance,' Martinez Gallery will be, in effect, begin publishing a kind of real-life catalog of their work, a project that will continue though 2003 and beyond. This preview show will also celebrate the season, with work that speaks to transitions and celebrations, ends and beginnings.

Additionally, in providing a programmed forum for these legends of New York art, Martinez Gallery looks forward to soon developing and showing a kind of second catalog, displaying the work of its younger artists, from Monna Marzouk to Mösco; newer generations with their own voices and unique perspectives, in years to come.

Martinez Gallery will also continue its ongoing DJ series, with its roster determined by musical director Bobbito a.k.a. DJ Cucumberslice, as well as special guest DJs. The inauguration party for 'Exit Entrance' will be hosted by Qool Marv, and will have a special appearance by Bobbito. There will be a rotating lineup of regulars and new faces behind the turntables throughout the weeks of 'Exit Entrance.'

Current lineup:
Thursdays - Language
Fridays - Citizen Kane and/or Eli
Saturdays - DJ Oriza and Eclipse
Sundays - surprise guest DJs

In addition, Martinez Gallery will have regular and not-so-regular appearances from Spinna, Rich Medina and Jahid amongst others.

Because 'Exit Entrance' is a special installation piece and best seen at night during club hours, Martinez Gallery hours will be changed for the duration of the installation. The opening, on Saturday, Dec. 21, will kick off at 8 p.m., with the after party starting at 10 p.m.
