London Street Projects is pleased to announce an exhibition by Habib
Kheradyar.
According to the artist:
'There are three noteworthy sources of inspiration for this exhibition.
The first is the work of Buckminster Fuller, the geodesic dome. The second
is Sophocles's Oedipus the King. The third is the collaboration with Jim
Ovelmen.
The dialog with Jim Ovelmen and his distinct sensibility deepens the
outcome of working with the site specificity of a space.
Oedipus choosing to trust intelligence over God's oracles compares to
choosing science over religion. Ironically in the play they both lead to
the same outcome. It is his intelligence that makes him great and is also
what makes him tragic. There are frequent references to eyes, sight, light
and perception throughout with many binaries associated with the idea of
sight and blindness: illusion and disillusion, light and dark, morning and
night. Oedipus is a pawn in the celestial workings of fate. Oedipus is
more than a passive player and takes pride in his intelligence. He is
great but not perfect. He is human.
The fabric and armature paintings of the last ten years relate to Fuller's
concept of demonstrations of more-with-less, or 'ephemeralization'. The
installation at London Street Projects emphasizes this relationship. These
articulations of interference patterns also known as the moiré effect
argue issues of perception while the Oedipus concept allows an embrace
also for failures of perception.'
