Wilkinson Chris - The New Art Gallery Walsall
An installation by Turner Prize nominated artist Mike Nelson. Mike says of his work 'My works are built to look old in the first place. I deliberately choose objects that are on the peripheries of acceptance, the sort of things which would not normally be valued, such as an old fan or an enamel light fitting. But, beyond this, I find it incredibly interesting how time changes the reading of something'.

25th July - 14th September
Lionheart, a major installation by Turner Prize nominated artist Mike Nelson has been purchased for The New Art Gallery Walsall collection by the Contemporary Art Society and will be on display at the Gallery from the 25th July to 14th September 2003.
Artist, Mike Nelson has used a wide range of found objects to create an intriguing, provocative and highly influential work. The English drifter's camp is created in the Gallery with skins, cages, traps, darts, beer cans, ashtrays, books and prayer mats making insinuations about the owner whose livelihood is based on the leftovers of different communities. It is as if the rubble of many countries, Asian, Turkish, Afro-Carribean and Irish, had washed up in the Gallery.

As part of the exhibition Mike Nelson will be giving a free talk, about his work, on Saturday 9th August at 2pm.
