Women Painters West

To start fresh again - Awakenings frame arts soul Winter comes, soft air.

Women Painters West is pleased to announce its first exhibition of the 2004 Season, 'Winter Awakenings,' which opens January 3 through January 29 at the LA Artcore Brewery Annex. The show will be juried by Scott Canty, Director Curator of the Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park, and Awards presented at the Reception on Sunday, January 11th between 1:00 and 3:00PM.

WPW exhibitions continue to be of the highest quality largely because of the juried selection process. A recent juror list includes Renee Amitai, Molly Barnes, Joni Gordon, Don Lagerberg, Louise Lewis, and LA Artcore's Gallery Director, Lydia Takeshita. Comments by jurors and reviews describing WPW shows as 'reflective, poetic, elegant. . .with aspects of color abstraction, minimalism, expressionism, modernism, and cubism. . .connecting cultures across the millennia,' truly seem to capture the diversity, depth, versatility, and creativity of the WPW artists and their artwork.

Three additional WPW shows are scheduled for 2004, each with a seasonal theme, to be held at the Pacific Palisades Library, The Folk Tree Collection in Pasadena, and The Brand Library Art Galleries in Glendale, respectively. Exact show dates to be announced in Artscene at a later date.

WPW, founded in Laguna Beach in 1921, holds most of its shows in the LA/Southern California area and has over 200 professional women artists who work in all mediums. Many members are award-winning artists recognized and honored nationally and internationally. Outstanding guest speakers are featured at their monthly luncheon meetings including Sam Messer, Astrid Preston, Tom Wudl, with Lita Albuquerque on the horizon for 2004. In addition, WPW provides annual scholarships to emerging artists and offers philanthropic aid to the community. Membership is by application only. For further information about forthcoming exhibitions and membership, contact Susan Kuss, Exhibition Chair, at (818)780-2512 or Carole Gillin, Membership, at (805) 578-0472.
