The leading contemporary art fair in the Asia Pacific region. Over 2,500 art works will be on exhibition including painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, multi media and installation by over 800 artists. In addition to gallery exhibitions, nine project rooms have been curated for the Fair featuring work by innovative and independent artists - in association with a university gallery, contemporary art space or artist run initiative.

The Premier Trade Fair and Exposition of Contemporary Art in the Asia Pacific.

The biennial Melbourne Art Fair 2004 is one of Australia's most significant exhibitions of contemporary visual art. It is the leading art fair in the Asia Pacific region. The Melbourne Art Fair 2004 is held from 29 September to 3 October 2004 at the World Heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, Australia.

Galleries from all states and territories of Australia will be represented as well as from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Auckland, Wellington, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Rome and New York.

Acceptance into the Fair is based upon the application submitted by the invited gallery. Stringent criteria ensures the Fair presents leading Australian and overseas galleries exhibiting established, mid-career and emerging artists. Participants must represent the primary art market that is commercial galleries that specialise in the exhibition and first sales of artists' work.

The Fair promotes innovation and excellence in contemporary art and is a snapshot of current contemporary art practice in the Asia Pacific.

Over 2,500 art works will be on exhibition including painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, multi media and installation by over 800 artists. In addition to gallery exhibitions, nine project rooms have been curated for the Fair featuring work by innovative and independent artists - in association with a university gallery, contemporary art space or artist run initiative.

The Melbourne Art Fair program features the Vernissage in association with Saab, national and international collector and curator programs, a free forum program at the National Gallery of Victoria: International (NGV), project rooms, a private lounge, guided tours and travel and accommodation packages.

With anticipated visitor attendance of 25,000, the strongest in its 18 year history, the Melbourne Art Fair is the Southern Hemisphere's pre-eminent art fair.

Artists featured at the Fair will include Brook Andrew (Australia), Ricky Swallow (Australia), Shane Cotton (New Zealand), Ronnie Van Hout (New Zealand), Louise Weaver (Australia), Kwang-Young Chun (Korea), George Tjungurrayi (Australia), Sean Scully (Ireland), Regina Wilson (Australia), Luo Brothers (China), Emily Floyd (Australia), Leah King-Smith (Australia), Park Seo-Bo (Korea), Callum Innes (United Kingdom), Liu Qinghe (China) and Cherine Fahd (Australia).

The Melbourne Art Fair is presented by the Melbourne Art Fair Foundation a not for profit organisation with the primary objectives of promoting contemporary art and supporting living artists.
