Igor Filippov - Terrie Powers

Exhibiting in the Helena Davis and Foyer galleries, local artist Terrie Powers will present new paintings in her exhibit, ID-Visible. These colorful images illustrate the inner landscape of the artist’s personal character. Despite their simple design, each painting is a vibrant construction of metaphors and symbols signifying the artist’s mental and emotional journey toward self-understanding. Powers, a member of 1708 gallery, has been featured in several exhibitions throughout Richmond, VA. She has severed as a panelist for the Virginia Commission for the Arts grant program and is currently presiding as resident scenic designer/artist at Theatre IV since 1981.

Featured in the Main gallery will be Dreams of King, an exhibition of recent oil paintings by Russian artist Igor Filippov. Inspired by the mythological mosaics resulting from the ancient cultural influences existing within the Crimean Peninsula, Igor Filippov employs mythological semantics to create fascinating, mysterious images. His most recent paintings illustrate dream-like worlds, suspended between fantasy and reality. Filippov earned his MFA in St. Petersburg, Russia and is presently a professor at Kharkov State Academy of Design and Arts in Ukraine. His work has been exhibited throughout Russia, Ukraine, and Norway. Additionally, his work is featured in collections including the Fine Art Museum of Archangelsk (Russia), Sevastopol Museum of Fine Arts (Ukraine), Boden Fine Arts Museum (Sweden), and Severodvinsk Municipal Museum of Fine Art (Russia).
