comunicato stampa

Recent paintings and Drawings

A solo exhibit of paintings and drawings, ranging in size from four inches up to six feet, executed in a variety of mediums on canvas, board, and salvaged surfaces. The pieces are influenced by a collective interest in the world of science, abnormal history and culture, and are continually littered with images from an obsessive and personal iconography.

From oil and acrylic paint to carbon paper transfers, watercolor, collage and ink, each piece is another link in the chain to an alternate and borderline idiosyncratic world; one of unnatural animals and landscapes, adaptations of mythologies, impressions of childhood dreams, and curious behavior.

Cathleen Grado has been painting and creating art since childhood, she has never limited herself to artistic expression in one medium, but the act of painting and drawing has always been the core base of her continuous creative output.

Cathleen maintains her studio in Brooklyn. This will be her first solo gallery exhibit. In addition to her paintings and drawings she also works in photography and experimental non narrative film, often collaborating with musicians to create live audio performances in conjunction with multiple projections. Often she creates audio collages for these pieces utilizing pre-recorded antiquated material along with new original music, and enjoys using old film and audio equipment so as to not be bound by the limitations of technology.
