comunicato stampa

Following the phenomenal success last year of its first edition, the second BERLINER KUNSTALON will be held in the Autumn of 2005. It will include 42 exhibitions as well as 2 special shows curated by Asim Chugthai and Spunk Seipel, illustrating why Berlin's international reputation as a dynamic centre for the arts is well deserved.

Spread over 3900 square metres, galleries, artists' networks, art spaces, freelance curators and other projects will present recent works by contemporary artists, beyond the mainstream, not dictated by commercial constraints. The BERLINER KUNSTSALON was conceived as a complementary programme to the Kunstherbst Berlin (Art Autumn), providing a forum for discussion and contacts. Visitors are provided with glimpses into the independent art scene in a way that is not available anywhere else. "Our priority is, this time around, to show the extent to which the Berlin art scene is part of networks and, indeed, influences people and institutions beyond the city" said Edmund Piper, the director of the BERLINER KUNSTSALON. "That's why, this time around, we've invited exhibitors from further afield, such as those from Hamburg, Erfurt, Dusseldorf, Munich, Karlsruhe, Paris, Jena, Poznan, Liverpool, Bregenz, Vilnius and Ptuj to participate in this year's event. A promising programme of lectures and video presentations will complement the exhibitions, contextualising them and offering visitors the opportunity to approach not only the works on show but also the ideas therein from a number of different perspectives.

Two international curators who are functioning as additional artistic advisors to the second BERLINER KUNSTSALON are Asim Chughai and Spunk Seipel.

The 1st BERLINER KUNSTSALON in 2004 was initiated by Edmund Piper, its artistic director. He does not, by any means, see this event as competing with the art fairs ART FORUM BERLIN, Preview Berlin and Berliner Liste, which are held at the same time of year. On the contrary, it provides another perspective of the current realities of the art scene in Berlin today. The realisation of this idea is process-orientated and in co-operation with the venue, "arena Berlin" (http://www.arena-berlin.de). The individual responsible, Falk Walter merits our whole-hearted thanks!

Also the second BERLINER KUNSTSALON ist supported by Michael Schultz:
therefore many thanks !! :-)

The ART FORUM BERLIN, and its artistic director, Sabrina van der Ley, as well as the organisers of the Kunstherbst Berlin also personally recommend the second BERLINER KUNSTSALON.

We look forward to meeting you at the second BERLINER KUNSTSALON and are happy to answer any questions you might have.

The BERINER KUNSTSALON
is a magnet for art collectors, curators and gallerists and of course an art-interested public. As the Salon is at the same time as the Art forum it profits from the large number of international art buyers and experts that are in the city and offers them the chance to discover new young modern artists at the SALON. The goal of the SALON is to attract an educated public who are open to new movements and setting trends.

PRESS
Even before the SALON has started the Media will be informed of the progress and developments of the show. Presswork will be both in English and German. Press- work will be with the important regional and international media concerns.

INTERNET
Is available under the Internet address www.berlinerkunstsalon.de an email newsletter occurs at regular intervals and is currently sent out to over 16,000 art-interested people.

CO-OPERATIONS

ART FORUM BERLIN
CURATORS AND COLLECTORS
As part of the international curators program of the Goethe-Institute curators and heads of museums will be brought to Berlin and to the BERLINER KUNSTSALON. A special collectors visit will help young artists to sell their work.

KUNSTVEREINE
The large art institutions in Berlin, NBK and the NGBK, Bethanien, Kunstraum
Kreuzberg and the GEHAG-forum support the BERLINER KUNSTSALON through
further communication and curators. Smaller Kunstvereins and art
institutions along with studio cooperatives in the city form an important
link to other sources.

PARTY CULTURE
Last year a committee representing the club scene both in and around the
city of Berlin supported the KUNSTASALON. They helped to circulate Flyers
and info in the vibrant Berliner clubbing world. We are pleased that this
co-operation will again take place this year.
