Her elaborately staged universe reformulates stylistic motifs of popular and visual art culture, drawing upon imagery from 1970’s television and comic books together with a dash of ‘007. The resulting dream-like narratives play out the complexities surrounding issues such as gender, ethnicity, power, and violence.
Alongside Adventures Stills presents LOVE, a spectacular cut-and-paste video work which carefully splices together scenes from some of the artist’s favourite Hollywood melodramas. Cinematic cliche' gives way to a darkly sexy feminism with hours of film edited to a succession of passionate embraces, acts of betrayal, frenzied violence and finally revenge.
Adventures is presented in partnership with the Victoria Miro Gallery (www.victoria-miro.com) and is part of the Edinburgh Art Festival (www.edinburghartfestival.com)
