Solo exhibition
The Kravets/Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce New Paintings a solo
exhibition of new work by Wendell Gladstone. The exhibition opens on
Thursday, November 16 with a reception for the artist from 6-8 pm and runs
through January 6, 2007.
Wendell Gladstone has routinely explored connections between painting and
sculpture. In his latest body of work, however, he pairs down his practice
to a single two-dimensional plane. What was once a dialogue between two
disparate mediums, is now a conversation between differing modes of
painting. Synthetic constructs and hard edge painting with nods to
Pointillism and Cubism coexist and interact. All of these elements are
woven into a complex narrative that revolves around a group of NeoLuddites
and their elaborate rituals.
New Paintings is part of a three-venue exhibition. Gladstone’s work will
also be on view at Artspace Witzenhausen in Amsterdam from November 25th
through December 30th, 2006 and at Roberts & Tilton in Los Angeles from
January 6th through February 3rd, 2007.
A fully illustrated catalogue with essay by Franklin Sirmans will be
available.
