Donna Ferrato

Higher Pictures, New York

The photographer's approach is powerful, personal and driven by her intuitive sex sense. Once she gets behind closed doors, she captures a rare level of intimacy that prompts the question ''how in the world does she get those pictures?''.

comunicato stampa

Works from the 70s and 80s

Higher Pictures presents the first New York solo gallery exhibition of American photographer Donna Ferrato. Focusing on pieces made between 1975-1988, the exhibition begins on the dance floor of San Francisco's Manhole disco, travels to New York's Plato's Retreat, and finally delves into the domestic life of a wealthy New Jersey family and its cocaine fueled binges and dark dramas.

Ferrato's approach is powerful, personal and driven by her intuitive sex sense. Once she gets behind closed doors, Ferrato captures a rare level of intimacy that prompts the question "how in the world does she get those pictures?"

Ferrato has received numerous awards, including the W. Eugene Smith Grant, the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Humanistic Photography and the Kodak Crystal Eagle for Courage in Journalism. Her work has appeared in publications including Life, Time, People Weekly, USA Today, The New York Times Magazine, MS, and in television shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show, CBS America Tonight, Good Morning America, Dateline, Eye on America, NBC Now, The Crusaders, Court TV and Rolanda. Ferrato's books include Living with the Enemy, Aperture, 1991 and Love and Lust, Aperture, 2004.
