11
A Critical Video Exhibit

Since the tragedy of 9-11-01, the city of New York has been forced to deal with the reality of war and the meaning of insecurity. Our political leaders encourage us to "return to normalcy" in hopes of healing the pain of lost loved ones and/or to stabilize our fragile economy. The individual questions the causes and attempts to reason or justify its existence. Specifically our existence within the larger and apparently greater scheme of national and international decision-making.

I love NY- Will Kasai

Video artist Will Kasai presents "11" a digital video "shrine" that questions the moral revival in America as a result of the September 11th tragedy. He uses a montage of stirring inspirational images and a tribal jazz accompaniment to conflict the obvious with the obscure.

"A shallow perception leads to ignorance but analysis frees us to be hypocrites."-Kasai

Will Kasai studied Film Production at Regent University in Virginia and at the University of Namibia in southern Africa. While directing short films the artist moved from film to digital art. By manipulating the technical freedom of digital, he is able to distort visual reality to fit his own.

"The power of the medium and it's fluidity allows the artist to easily communicate visually with the subconscious." - Kasai
"In these sensitive times Kasai's creative rawness forces the viewer to critically think about symbols and their association with this tragedy."-Louky Keijsers (Thomas Erben Gallery)

Opening Reception: Friday, October 26, From 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
