comunicato stampa

Ernesto Esposito's collection is one of the largest and most important in Europe. After Italy and Switzerland, this is the third year the Ernesto Esposito Collection exhibits some of their works. Gravity will be held in Museo Artium (Spain) from 31 january to 18 may 2008.

More than 800 artworks by contemporary artists, chosen according to the collector's own criteria and interests have become an image of the contemporary art scene. This enormous collection, spearhead of contemporary art, offers both a serious and seductive commentary on the social, artistic, political and formal scenario, from the fall of the twin towers to our days, was made available for this exhibition.

The term "gravity" referred to in the title is used ambivalently. It alludes to the tension created between two large forces. On the one hand, banality, fostered by a market economy that needs to encourage craving, and a transcendental loss of innocence on the other, keep mankind in a state of suspension. The exhibition deals with the recovery of micro-utopias, with the superimposition of shining icons of good and evil and the balance between real and hypocritical tragedy. This represents an intelligent artistic landscape but will lead inevitably to a melancholic aftertaste among some spectators.

Several ambiences and installations combine with audiovisual pieces, paintings and photographs. The format and aesthetics of a fashion magazine will give the exhibition the appearance of a catalogue, with photographs of the pieces selected and the criteria for their selection. The publication contains an interview.

Show will display works by Ghada Amer, Assum Vivid Astro Focus, Vanessa Beecroft, Pierre Bismuth, Aline Bouvy y John Gillis, Slater Bradley, Susan Burner, Jota Castro, Peter Coffin, Jeremy Deller, Jen DeNike, Alberto di Fabio, Luke Fowler, Anna Fusco, Thomas Glassford, Nicola Gobbetto, Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom, Kevin Francis Gray, Matt Greene, Antony Gormley, Annika von Hansswolff, Thomas Hirschhorn, Evan Holloway, James Hopkins, Mustafa Hulusi, Marine Hugonier, John Isaacs, Rashid Johnson, Kika Karadi, Terence Koh, Wolfgang Laib, Jim Lambie, Gonzalo Lebrija, Justin Lowe, Paul McCarthy, Barry McGee, Birgit Megerle, Jonathan Monk, Paulina Olowska, Seb Patane, Jaume Pitarch, Marc Quinn, Tobias Rehberger, Ugo Rondinone, Rosy Rox, Thomas Ruff, Markus Schinwald, Steven Shearer, Simon, Simon Starling, Cheney Thompson, Eugenio Tibaldi, Iké Udé, Piotr Uklanski, Francesco Vezzolli, Gillian Wearing and Jordan Wolfson.
