comunicato stampa

Exit Art is committing major resources of time, space and funds to create a major new initiative SEA (social environmental aesthetics) that will address issues of the environment through exhibitions, performances, panels and a permanent archive. SEA will assemble artists, activists, scientists and scholars to address environmental issues through presentations of visual art, performances, panels and lecture series that will communicate international activities concerning environmental and social activism. SEA will occupy a permanent space in Exit Underground, a 3000 square-foot, multi-media performance, film and exhibition venue underneath Exit Art’s main gallery space. The Sea archive will be a permanent archive of information, images and videos that will be a continuous source for upcoming exhibitions and projects.

S.E.A is an exhibition program and archive of artworks that address social and environmental concerns. It will assemble artists, activists, scientists and scholars to address these issues through presentations of visual art, performances, panels and lecture series. S.E.A will occupy a permanent space in Exit Underground, a multimedia performance, film and exhibition venue underneath Exit Art’s main gallery space. The S.E.A. Archive will be a permanent archive of information, images and videos that will be a searchable database for scholars and researchers.

Artists have been making work related to social and environmental issues for a long time, but S.E.A. will be the most comprehensive and probably the first initiative of its kind to bring this work together under a cohesive program. Central to the mission of S.E.A is to provide a vehicle through which the public can be made aware of this kind of work, to provide a forum for collaboration between artists and ecologists and to inspire them to continue the tradition of work that S.E.A. presents. S.E.A. functions as an initiative where scientists, activists, researchers, academics, artists, and the environmentally-conscious public can join together in support of issues that affect our daily lives.

SEA initiative and the first project EPA is conceived by Papo Colo,

This major new exhibition series and archive initiative will kick-off on March 15 with the opening of E.P.A. (Environmental Performance Actions) in Exit Underground.
