New Fantasies of Urban Landscape. In this show Wilhelm Finger will be presenting digitally manipulated images and video work that reveal the urban universe of Finger's imagination, one in which real places and times, real cities and real life melt together in a childhood fantasy of colour and modernity.
New Fantasies of Urban Landscape
Wilhelm Finger
Finger is a man at the mercy of his visual sense. Wherever he finds himself
- be it Canada, the UK, Germany, the U.S. or South Africa he can't help
but respond to the visually arresting. Seized, almost hypnotised by everyday
sights (he once spent a whole day in New York just looking at phone boxes Â
"I had to capture them") he is able to transmute them into beautiful but
ambiguous images.
In this show he will be presenting digitally manipulated images and video
work that reveal the urban universe of Finger's imagination, one in which
real places and times, real cities and real life melt together in a
childhood fantasy of colour and modernity.
Finally, it is left to each viewer to find their own position of equilibrium
between the actual lost places' that inspired the work, the re-imagined
cities overlaid on them by Finger, and the locations and states of mind
suggested by his accompanying text.
Wiebke Morgan Gallery is delighted to present Wilhelm Finger's first solo
show. Finger is a graduate of the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Dortmund and
Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design.
Thursdays to Saturdays between 2 and 6pm or by arrangement.
