With /now playing/, Gabriela Jolowicz presents linocuts and woodcuts
whose ordinary everyday themes
result from the artist's immediate experiences. Portrayed in a
traditional technique, the prints attain
a unique character through their idiosyncratic subject matters (music
club, tattoo, McDonalds) and
their excessive, partly delicate and partly crude surface delineations.
They combine a seemingly
realistic manner of representation and means of de-familiarization such
as perspective distortion
and an exuberant textural denseness.
