In occasione della prossima edizione del Salone del Mobile, il design e la creatività tornano ad animare l’ex quartiere operaio di Lambrate, già sede di alcune fra le storiche fabbriche che in passato resero Milano e l’Italia famosa in tutto il mondo. L’Innocenti con la sua MiniMinor, la Lambretta, la Faema con la produzione di macchine da caffé furono infatti vere e proprie icone degli anni del boom economico italiano.

Per il Fuorisalone 2010, Ventura Lambrate prosegue il suo percorso di rinascita verso quello che è oggi uno dei poli culturali cittadini più vivi e dinamici e diventa nuovamente epicentro di ricerca e qualità applicata al design, in una Milano sempre più policentrica e desiderosa di nuovi motori di creatività e innovazione. Oltre alla mostra 13.798 grammi di design, l’area di Lambrate presenterà un’attenta selezione di designer invitati a occupare le fabbriche dismesse e i loft della zona.

LA MOSTRA: 13.798 grammi di design è un’esposizione a tema curata da Maria Cristina Didero e Susanna Legrenzi per LAP - Lambretto Art Project. La mostra invita per la prima volta 45 tra designer di fama internazionale e firme emergenti a confrontarsi con il loro lavoro, indaga il peso della creatività, cercando di scoprire da dove nasca il successo di un prodotto. Dal cemento crudo alle plastiche ultraleggere, da forme compatte a insospettabili equilibri di pieni/vuoti, da miniaturizzazioni a fuori scala, i progetti in mostra impongono una serie di riflessioni attorno al ruolo chiave del design contemporaneo impegnato ad anticipare urgenze/bisogni/desideri sempre più colmi e complessi, chiamando gli autori a interrogarsi su qual è, e se c’è, il valore della creatività applicata a un prodotto. Con un allestimento peso piuma, il design si espone al crudo giudizio di un ideale ufficio internazionale dei pesi e delle misure, in un ininterrotto fluire di immagini che svelano quanto vale davvero al grammo un oggetto di design.

Catalogati seguendo puntualmente il loro peso, i progetti selezionati in 13.798 grammi di design trasformano lo spazio di Lambretto Art Project in una grande bilancia della creatività dove la ricerca dei materiali innovativi, l’attenzione al risultato estetico e la spinta all’innovazione sono i criteri di un’indagine che presenta progetti delle voci più significative del panorama internazionale del design, molti dei quali inediti per l’Italia.

Una pubblicazione free press in formato tabloid, realizzata da Mousse Publishing e distribuita capillarmente nei luoghi di maggiore interesse del circuito dell’arte contemporanea e del design, racconterà il doppio evento di Lambrate: la mostra 13.798 grammi di design e i designer presenti a Ventura Lambrate.

Maria Cristina Didero vive e lavora a Milano. Giornalista freelance e curatrice indipendente collabora da oltre dieci anni con il Vitra Design Museum di Weil am Rhein. Nel 2009 ha curato un progetto a Pechino per Cige e una sezione alla Biennale di Design di Gwangju – Corea del Sud. È in via di pubblicazione un suo volume dedicato a Michele De Lucchi con illustrazioni di Steven Guarnaccia, per le Edizioni Corraini.

Susanna Legrenzi vive e lavora a Milano. Curatrice indipendente, dal 1994 giornalista professionista, dopo aver lavorato come caporedattore arte e design a Io donna/Corriere della Sera, attualmente si divide tra carta stampata e web, dove è responsabile del progetto editoriale Big Ben Design. Dal 2009 insegna Design Comunication in NABA (Milano).

LAP – LAMBRETTO ART PROJECT
Inaugurato lo scorso aprile con una performance di Nico Vascellari, LAP - Lambretto Art Project è il nuovo spazio a Lambrate dedicato alla sperimentazione e al pensiero creativo, un contenitore dinamico, aperto al dialogo con curatori indipendenti che intendono promuovere cultura. LAP ospita infatti progetti interdisciplinari volti alla ricerca artistica più ampia e trasversale: dall’arte contemporanea, alla musica, dal design al teatro, dal cinema, alla danza per inserirsi all’interno del panorama culturale della città. Il progetto architettonico di LAP è stato curato da Ruattistudio Architetti con Mariano Pichler.

VENTURA LAMBRATE
Ventura Lambrate nasce dalla volontà di invitare, per il Fuorisalone 2010, alcune tra le più interessanti realtà del design internazionale ad occupare gli spazi dismessi e i loft patinati del quartiere Lambrate, costituendo così un vero e proprio distretto della creatività a Milano. Come già in passato, oggi i designer più sperimentali preferiscono gli spazi ancora inesplorati dei quartieri periferici, la riscoperta di luoghi dall’alto valore simbolico per il design di questa città. Il distretto di Lambrate è già sede di numerose fra le realtà creative più propositive e affermate della città, come le gallerie d’arte Massimo De Carlo, Francesca Minini, Manuela Klerkx, Pianissimo, Prometeogallery, Plusdesign, la Casa Editrice Abitare–Segesta, la Scuola Politecnica di Design, la libreria Art Book Milano e Radio 101.

For the upcoming edition of the Salone del Mobile, design and creativity are back, enlivening the former industrial district of Lambrate, once the home of some of the historic factories that made Milan and Italy famous in the past around the world. Innocenti with its MiniMinor, Lambretta, Faema with its production of coffee machines, were true icons of the years of the Italian economic boom.

For the Fuorisalone 2010, Ventura Lambrate continues its process of revitalization of what today is one of the most lively, dynamic cultural zones of the city, a new epicenter of research and quality applied to design, in an increasingly multicentric Milan, a city in search of new motors of creativity and innovation. Besides the exhibition 13,798 grams of design, the Lambrate area will also present an outstanding selection of designers invited to occupy the spaces of the abandoned factories and renovated lofts of the zone.

THE EXHIBITION: 13,798 grams of design is a theme exhibition curated by Maria Cristina Didero and Susanna Legrenzi for LAP - Lambretto Art Project. For the first time, the show involves 45 internationally renowned and emerging designers in an investigation of their work and the importance of creativity, in an attempt to discover the factors behind the success of a product.

From raw cement to ultralight plastics, compact forms to unpredictable balances of solids and voids, miniature to giant scale, the projects in the exhibition stimulate a series of reflections on the key role of contemporary design in forecasting urgent needs and increasingly complex desires. The designers focus in these works is on the value – if such a value exists – of creativity applied to a product. In a feather-weight exhibit, the design is exposed to the blunt judgment of an ideal international office of weights and measures, in a continuous flow of images that reveal the true value, per gram, of a design object.

Catalogued based on their weight, the projects selected for 13,798 grams of design transform the space of the Lambretto Art Project into a sort of weigh station of creativity, where research on innovative materials, with a focus on aesthetic results and advanced ideas, are the criteria of a survey that presents projects by the most significant voices on the international design scene, including many works never previously shown in Italy.

A free-press publication, in tabloid format, produced by Mousse Publishing and distributed at all the most interesting locations on the contemporary art and design circuit, will tell the story of the double event at Lambrate: the exhibition 13,798 grams of design and the designers featured at Ventura Lambrate.

Maria Cristina Didero lives and works in Milan. A freelance journalist and independent curator, she has collaborated for over ten years with the Vitra Design Museum of Weil am Rhein. In 2009 she curated a project in Beijing for CIGE and a section of the Design Biennial of Gwangju in South Korea. Her book on Michele De Lucchi, with illustrations by Steven Guarnaccia, is now being published by Edizioni Corraini.

Susanna Legrenzi lives and works in Milan as an independent curator and, since 1994, as a professional journalist. After having worked as editor-in-chief of art and design at Io donna/Corriere della Sera, she now operates in the fields of both press and web publishing, including the web project Big Ben Design. Since 2009 she has taught Design Communication at NABA (Milan).

LAP – LAMBRETTO ART PROJECT
Opened in April 2009 with a performance by Nico Vascellari, LAP/Lambretto Art Project is the new space at Lambrate for creative thinking and experimentation, a dynamic container open to dialogue with independent curators who want to promote culture. LAP hosts interdisciplinary projects covering the widest range of artistic and creative research: from contemporary art to music, design to theatre, cinema and dance, becoming a part of the cultural panorama of the city. The architectural design of LAP is by Ruattistudio Architetti with Mariano Pichler.

VENTURA LAMBRATE
Ventura Lambrate is an initiative to invite, for the Fuorisalone 2010, some of the most interesting realities of international design to utilize the abandoned spaces and elegantly refurbished lofts of the Lambrate neighbourhood, making it a veritable creativity district in Milan. As in the past, today the most innovative, experimental designers often prefer the still unexplored spaces of less central zones, rediscovering their great symbolic value for design and for the city.

The Lambrate district is already the home of many of the city’s most interesting and renowned creative situations, like the art galleries of Massimo De Carlo, Francesca Minini, Manuela Klerkx, Pianissimo, Prometeogallery, Plusdesign, the publishing house Abitare-Segesta, the Polytechnic School of Design, the bookstore Art Book Milano and Radio 101.
