'The new photographs I've been working on are black and white interiors of a Victorian
cottage in Maine. I wanted to make a set of black and white landscapes but found the
countryside there to offer up only clichés. I noticed all these paintings in the house we
were staying in of the local scenery. The owner (during the 60s and 70s) was
something of a Sunday painter. I thought that photographing these paintings as they
were displayed in the architecture would be a nice way of commenting on the tradition
of landscape imagery. In printing them I decided that it would be a nice way of
describing architectural space to print them to scale so that depending on how far
away the camera was from the wall the picture would be bigger or smaller. The
paintings themselves would be mostly the same size but you see more or less room
around them.
The sculptural element I am planning for the show will describe the wave front of a simple greeting, "Hi" as it passes through the 2 columns in the middle of your space. I see it as being a three-dimensional picture of the sound at a given moment.'
