Exhibition/Residency
Eduardo Padilha's practice crosses the
mediums of drawing, film-making and
sculptural installation. Using found
materials, he layers surfaces and inverts
images to create an exquisite sense of
unease, dislocation and longing. His
video works explore the idea of
camouflage in ways which disorientate
and confuse. Self-portraits feature
predominantly in his drawings. By
literally scoring marks over the paper
with pencil and ink, his image is
gradually obscured and transformed into
something new and disturbing. Alluding
to memory and change, Padilha's work
constantly re-positions itself, never fixed
or entirely comprehensible. Based in
London, Padilha gained his MA in Fine
Art from Chelsea College of Art in 1997.
His work has been included in Uncut,
ICA Cinematheque, London, 1997 and
Exchanges, Abel da Fonseca
Warehouse, Lisbon, 1998.
