The galleries invited to exhibit in the fair deal mainly in exceptional design objects from the advent of Modernism (circa 1900) to the present day, with select galleries specializing in outstanding 18th and 19th century antiques. Design On/Site showcases exhibitions of new work by individual designers or studios presented by design galleries, guerilla dealers or independent curators.
Each Design Miami/ fair invites the foremost design collectors and enthusiasts to interact with a diverse selection of exhibitions featuring rare works by pioneering modernists to one-off and limited-edition pieces by cutting edge contemporary designers.
At the core of the Design Miami/ forum is a marketplace for limited-edition design, amid which the most reputable international design galleries present curated exhibitions of museum-quality furniture, lighting and objets d’art, attracting the highest level of private and public collectors of historical and contemporary design. Design On/Site showcases small-scale yet high-level exhibitions of new work by individual designers or studios presented by design galleries, guerilla dealers or independent curators. Providing a platform for contemporary design innovation, these exhibitions support the relationships between patrons and creatives that drive the production of limited-edition design. Design On/Site provides an impactful snapshot of the designer’s vision, situating the new work within the larger contexts of the designer’s overall career and within contemporary design culture.
Design Miami invites designers, businesses and institutions to create unique exhibitions with strong curatorial and educational perspectives. A diverse selection of design is presented in the Design Miami satellite exhibits, from rare works by pioneering modernists to one-off and limited edition pieces by cutting-edge contemporary designers.
The Designer of the Future Award recognizes young, emerging designers whose work reflects exceptional innovation and beauty in limited-edition design. This Award also includes a commission to create a new object or series based upon a brief created by Design Miami.
