The absence of everything

Roaming è un processo di autonegazione. Cancellare l’oggetto per lasciar spazio all’inconsistenza dell’immagine.

“L'immagine come "virtualizzazione" può essere una metafora per indicare quella presenza antimaterica dell'immagine che si instaura nel momento miracoloso dell'opera come suo humus materico (e che si ricrea sempre di nuovo). Ma l'immagine non appartiene inestricabilmente a tale humus materico ma si rende così sensibile. La mia domanda da un po' di tempo ormai è quale sia la natura si tale immagine.” (G.Caravaggio)

Ecco questa breve annotazione per certi aspetti è effettivamente al centro della riflessione teorica attorno cui Roaming lavora.
Questa sottile crepa che corre tra oggetto e immagine. Nell’ affermazione dell'opera come mero phenomenon, ne ricerca infine la natura noumenica.

Credo che in questo senso l'opera, nel suo manifestarsi cioè nel suo entrare in contatto con la materia, dunque visualizzarsi e rendersi disponibile come immagine possa avere un valore euristico cioè possa essere traccia materiale per il raggiungimento dell’immateriale.

In questa dimensione mi sono chiesto e chiedo agli artisti invitati a questo appuntamento di Roaming se sia possibile pensare che in qualche modo questo reperto materico (cioè l’opera) possa essere eluso. E' postulabile "l'assenza di ogni cosa"?
Vorrei fosse questo paradosso il punto di partenza per la nostra mostra.

Roaming is a process of self-negation.
Deleting the object in order to make room for the insubstantial image.

“The image as ‘virtualization’ may be a metaphor to suggest that anti-material presence
of the image that sets up in the miraculous moment of the artwork as its material humus (and that creates itself ever again), however the image does not belong inextricably to that material humus but so it makes itself perceptible.
In a month of Sundays, my question is, by now, which is the nature of this image.” (G. Caravaggio)

That short annotation for some reasons is in fact at the core of the theoretical consideration in which Roaming works about.
This thin crack that runs between object and image.
Stating artwork as mere phenomenon, it seeks eventually the intangible nature.
I believe that, in this sense, the artwork, in the very moment of its manifestation,
in the process of getting in contact with the matter, by showing itself and making itself available as image, might have a heuristic value might have a material trace for reaching the immaterial.

What I ask myself and the artists I invited to Roaming is whether is possible to think that this material trace (the artwork) might be eluded.
May one suppose “the absence of everything”?
I would like that this paradox is the starting point of our exhibition.

After touring extensively throughout Italy, Paris, Berlin, Nova Gorica and Prague, Roaming arrives for its first time in Graz. Roaming, based upon an idea by Ermanno Cristini, consists of a series of exhibitions, curated by Alessandro Castiglioni, that last only the time of their inauguration. Like flashes surviving in the photographer’s finger, then floating in the indistinct dimension of the web. Located in strong and representative spaces, the exhibitions are characterized by their rapidity and the way the space is occupied. What Roaming activates can be called a polarity breakaway: littleness as opposed to the greatness of the spaces, emptiness as opposed to the fullness by the public at the inauguration, the delay with regard to the acceleration of the event, the reality with regard to its representation, the physical with regard to the virtual...
