Transference

Patrick O'Growney and Frances Ryan

The work in the exhibition touches on themes of relationships, social control and personal boundaries. Patrick O'Growney's work constructs a rythmic dialogue of video sequences across two large-scale projections. He explores aspects of ritual in relation to skill, repetition, knowledge and transference, having filmed in London, Scotland and Ireland in response to each specific place.

In a disjointed narrative Frances Ryan puts together prints and photographs taken from various sources including documentation of previous installations and found images which act as metaphors for flight. The work forms a long linear panel around the room, offering a study of behaviour, introspection and the reinforcement of conditioning environments.

Born in Co. Meath, Ireland in 1972, Patrick O'Growney moved to central Scotland in July 2001 after graduating from BA Sculpture at Sheffield Hallam University. Frances Ryan is currently undertaking MFA at Edinburgh College of Art. She graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 2000.

Artists' Talk The artists' will talk about their previous work and current exhibition in the gallery on Friday 20 September from 6.30pm. Admission free.
