September 14 -November 17, 2002
Cultural cliches, sardonic humor, and ludicrous interactive components
define Venezuelan artist José Antonio Hernández Diez's sculpture and
multi-media installations. His first American survey includes ten major
works such as Soledad Miranda-giant fingernails made from
fiberglass-inspired by the vernacular culture and traditions of his home
country. Co-organized by Dan Cameron and Gerardo Mosquera.
PBICA presents several rotating exhibitions of contemporary art annually, in addition to ongoing projects in new media and specially
commissioned works by internationally recognized, as well as emerging artists.
The museum contains 6,400 square feet of exhibition space and is able to accommodate large-scale contemporary art works and
installations. Other features include state-of-the-art lighting and new-technology capabilities.
The first large-scale museum survey of the Venezuelan multi-media artist José Antonio Hernandez-Diez opens at the Palm Beach Institute
of Contemporary Art before traveling nationwide. The exhibition has been organized by the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New
York, and co-curated by its senior curator, Dan Cameron and adjunct curator Gerardo Mosquera.
