La galleria A arte Studio Invernizzi inaugura mercoledì 22 settembre 2010 una mostra personale di Ulrich Rückriem - indiscusso protagonista della scultura europea dalla metà degli anni Sessanta - nella quale verranno presentati 70 disegni appartenenti al ciclo creativo che ha caratterizzato la sua opera degli ultimi tre anni. L’esposizione esemplifica un momento particolarmente significativo della ricerca di Rückriem, quello dedicato alla produzione grafica che da sempre ha accompagnato la sua indagine, e che recentemente ha accolto anche il colore. Ciascuno di questi disegni nasce da un approccio immediato e casuale alla superficie: l’artista sovrappone sette fogli di carta da lucido e unisce i punti con cui ha arbitrariamente segnato ogni singola pagina. Dalla risultante di queste linee ha origine una forma (e di conseguenza anche una spazialità) che viene poi colorata dall’artista.

In questo procedere, ciò che per Rückriem è importante affermare non senza una certa provocatorietà, è il carattere arbitrario di tutta l’operazione. Inoltre, ciò che contraddistingue l’indagine dell’artista sia in termini pittorici sia in termini scultorei, è la possibilità reale di non esaurire con un’ unica soluzione la condizione espressiva dell’opera. L’alternanza dei punti casualmente disposti sui fogli infatti, presuppone una numerosa serie di risorse formali: la libertà dei singoli elementi nel loro disporsi nello spazio quindi, così come il loro legame relazionale, è potenzialmente modificabile secondo sistemi variabili che connotano l’atto estetico come un campo di forze trasformabili.

In contemporanea, verrà presentata una mostra dell’artista tedesco presso la galleria Ars Now Seragiotto di Padova per la quale sono stati realizzati due interventi a muro della serie “Day and Night” dove le opere grafiche ritornano anche nelle pitture parietali, in cui il fondo, in una delle pareti bianco, nell’altra nero accoglie alcuni dei disegni che ne punteggiano la superficie e che sottolineano l’attenzione di Rückriem per il potenziale espressivo delle forme nello spazio. In occasione della mostra verrà pubblicato un catalogo bilingue con la riproduzione delle opere esposte in galleria a Milano e a Padova, un saggio di Elena Forin, testi di Dorothee Böhm e un apparato bio-bibliografico.

Ulrich Rückriem nasce a Düsseldorf nel 1938.
Nel 1964 tiene la sua prima mostra personale alla Domgalerie di Colonia e nel 1969 espone alla Galerie Konrad Fischer a Düsseldorf. Negli anni Settanta gli vengono dedicate mostre in diversi musei quali il Museum Haus Lange a Krefeld, la Kunsthalle Tübingen, lo Städtische Museum Abteiberg a Mönchengladbach, la Frankfurter Kunstverein, il Museum of Modern Art di Oxford, lo Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum di Eindhoven e il Kunstmuseum Bonn. Negli anni Ottanta e Novanta realizza grandi mostre in importanti spazi pubblici, tra cui il Centre Georges Pompidou di Parigi, il Westfalisches Landesmuseum a Münster, il Kröller-Müller Museum a Otterlo, il Palacio de Cristal al Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia a Madrid, la Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus di Monaco di Baviera e lo Stedelijk Museum di Amsterdam. Nel 2004 la Neue National Galerie di Berlino e lo Stiftung Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum di Duisburg gli dedicano una mostra personale. Nel 2007 viene invitato a realizzare due mostre personali al Museum Ludwig di Colonia e allo Sprengel Museum di Hannover. Nel 2009 la Neue Nationalgalerie di Berlino gli ha dedicato una grande mostra personale.

On Wednesday 22 September 2010 at A arte Studio Invernizzi will open a solo exhibition devoted to the works of Ulrich Rückriem, an undisputed master of European sculpture since the mid-1960s. Seventy drawings from the creative cycle that has been at the heart of his work over the past three years will be on show. The exhibition illustrates a particularly significant moment in Rückriem’s artistic career, which is devoted to the graphic work that has always accompanied his research, and that has recently turned to colour as well.

Each of these drawings comes from an immediate and random approach to the surface: the artist overlays seven sheets of tracing paper and joins up the dots with which he has arbitrarily marked each one. These lines thus generate forms (and, consequently, also spatial relations) which the artist then colours. Not without a certain degree of provocation, Rückriem considers it important to assert the arbitrary nature of the entire operation which emerges through this process. Furthermore, what distinguishes the artist’s investigations in both painting and sculptural terms, is the real possibility not to exhaust the expressive condition of the work in a single solution. This is because the alternation of dots placed randomly on the sheets presupposes a wide range of formal resources: the freedom of the individual elements to arrange themselves in space and thus, through their interconnections, to be potentially modifiable, according to variable systems that reveal the aesthetic act to be a field of ever-changing forces.

At the same time, an exhibition of works by the German artist will be shown at Ars Now Seragiotto in Padua. Here, he has created two mural works in his ‘Day and Night’ series, in which his graphic works also appear in his wall paintings. The background for one is a white wall while for the other it is black, with a number of drawings interspersed on the surfaces, emphasising Rückriem's focus on the expressive potential of forms in space.
For the exhibition, a two-language catalogue will be published with reproductions of the works on show in the gallery in Milan and in Padua. It will contain an essay by Elena Forin, texts by Dorothee Böhm, and biographical and bibliographical notes.

Ulrich Rückriem was born in Düsseldorf in 1938.
In 1964 he put on his first solo exhibition at the Domgalerie in Cologne, and in 1969 he exhibited at the Galerie Konrad Fischer in Düsseldorf.
