comunicato stampa

GRID is a biannual, international photography event initiated to showcase the freshest and most innovative trends in contemporary photography, and the diverse subject matter explored via the photographic medium. GRID2010 has been extended this year to the cities Almere and Zaanstad. Spin-off’s of the festival are being established in Bergen and Purmerend. With more than eighty projects across sixty locations and around twenty participating countries, GRID is currently Holland's biggest international image based event.

Global
Like a raster, GRID spreads throughout the Amsterdam metropolitan area's museums and galleries linking photographers; both professional and emerging, photo agencies, media groups, art lovers and individual creatives from around the world. GRID creates an experimental, creative, and accessible web of diverse and visually rich photographic projects and related creative events. GRID takes shape in both renowned galleries and unconventional locations. GRID2010 has it's largest international participation to date featuring projects from Brazil, Peru, Taiwan, Quebec and many more.

Goals
GRID aims to create an environment that showcases the diverse styles and themes in contemporary photography and visual communication and to provide a platform for both renowned and emerging photographers to display their work. Via special 'image routes', GRID2010 visitors will be lead through different themed exhibitions. In Amsterdam for example an exciting and innovative music-photography route will be created. In addition to the visual exhibitions of GRID2010 a wide range of workshops, panel discussions and seminars will be supplementing the event as well as a portfolio review weekend.

Grow
The inaugural GRID event took place in 2002 and was named 'Foto Biennial Amsterdam Photo'. The initial event was very successful, attracting more than 225,000 visitors. In 2006 the festival changed its name to GRID06 and featured photographic projects from international participants for the first time. GRID2010 expects to attract 400,000 visitors from all over the world. GRID is always expanding and aims to continue growing an a creative capacity.

This year from September 26th until November 7th Stitching Amsterdam Photo will launch the fourth GRID International photography biennale. The event is dedicated to contemporary image culture and will be located in Amsterdam and the surrounding metropolitan region with around 60 projects and presentations from at least 25 countries.

Grid 2010 is dedicated to exposing exceptional contemporary image culture and visual communication with an international focus. We are anticipating GRID 2010 will attract approximately 400,000 visitors and aim to create a dynamic platform for a visual and verbal international dialogue to take shape.

Stitching Amsterdam Photo is leading the way in the Netherlands in regards to educational programmes focused on the city's youth and emerging young artists. In addition to GRID and the education programmes Stictching Amsterdam Photo is the only arts and culture orientated organisation in the Netherlands working with creative industry real estate.
