A competition which explicitly deals with saving resources and reducing CO2 in the field of design. This year's winner of the award is Jeannette Jakob. Her prototype 'Murx', a stool fabricated from scrap van tyres, will be presented in the exhibition together with a video of the innovative production technique she has developed along with the object.
The Arbeitskreis Recycling e.V. has been launching the RecyclingDesignpreis since 2007. This is the only design competition in Germany which explicitly deals with saving resources and reducing CO² in the field of design. For the fourth time in succession, up-and-coming designers were called upon to explore and develop the “hidden meaning of discarded things” by applying and using leftovers and scraps. A further requirement was that it should be possible to mass produce the designs on a smaller or larger scale, either in connection with employment promotion or by craft workshops. The contributions, which are to be evaluated, range from objects for everyday use to furniture, textiles and accessories.
In 2009, 250 products have been submitted, in 2010 more than 650 proposals have been sent in from 31 countries.
This year’s winner of the 2500 Euro award is Jeannette Jakob, born in 1975 in Bern, Switzerland. Her prototype “Murx”, a stool fabricated from scrap van tyres, will be presented in the exhibition together with a video of the innovative production technique Jeannette Jakob has developed along with the object.
The exhibition will be opened on Friday, October 15, 7 pm, by Thomas Holzmann, Vice President of The Federal Environment Agency, Udo Holtkamp from Herford RecyclingBörse! and Roland Nachtigäller, Artistic Director of Marta Herford.

Marta is the first stop of this travelling exhibition which will then move on to other venues such as the stilwerk design centres in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna. In cooperation with the Detmold School for Architecture and Interior Design, the show will also tour to Porto Alegre, Brazil, in March 2011.
