The Museum Of
What is a museum? Is it a cabinet of curiosities, a theme park, a horror house, a seat of learning, a temple, a department store, a vehicle for the celebration of power, a collection of objects, a story, a history lesson, or a display of material culture? Do we visit to have fun, to learn, to be entertained, to contemplate, to interact, to understand our story, or do we choose not to visit at all? These are just some of the questions that artist Clare Patey addresses in her work. Patey is one of the founders of 'The Museum Of', a series of innovative participatory temporary museums in a disused warehouse building on London's South Bank, and hers is the second presentation in the ASU Art Museum's Re-Thinking the Museum series.
