Una biografía del dibujo.
(Closed form. A Biography of Drawing)

ORGANIZED BY:
IVAM (Valencian Institute of Modern Art), Spain

CURATOR:
Valerio Adami

THEME:
The impulse of putting something down on a piece of paper, on a support, has always been associated with the desire to say something about the world. These thoughts have been intuitive and often expressed in a symbolic way, but they are fundamentally thoughts about the way of being in the world of man and his skill in understanding and improving a life context. Drawing is not only making lines or stains, it is marking a surface with an impression, mark or footstep, dot, line, etc. that bears witness to the pressure exerted by a hand, somebody's sign or expression.
Drawing is the oldest, most immediate and personal way of reproducing human nature and vision. Drawing is seeking an image that grasps, illustrates and synthesizes a vision. The vision may be external, something physical, or it may be internal, intimate and psychological. The image produced by a vision is an interpretative transcription but it is, above all, an experience.

CONTENTS:
This exhibition of 'closed form' drawing belongs within the line of IVAM exhibitions dedicated to drawing. It comprises a hundred works by very different artists, from the Renaissance, with artists like Hans Baldung Grien, to drawings of 20th century artists like Richard Lindner, not forgetting William Blake, Ingres or Picasso, in an attempt to provide an in-depth reflection about a specific form of expression and representation of reality by means of drawings.

On the occasion of the exhibition a catalogue will be published containing reproductions of all the works exhibited and several essays by specialists on the subject, among others, the curator of the exhibition, Valerio Adami, and the teacher and art critic Amelia Valtollina.
