comunicato stampa

With the exhibition 'RAUMRINDE', Leipzig based artists Tino Geiss (b. 1978, Jena) and Sebastian Rug (b. 1974, Vacha/Rhön) present most recent collages and drawings.

The collages/decollages of Tino Geiss primarily represent interiors which are developed in an intuitive artistic process. Adhesive paper tapes applied with color are gradually affixed to the support, partially pulled down again, and renewed. This results in an organic spatial image in varying forms of fragmentation, comparable to the character of a billboard. The collages gain their specific peculiarity through brittle layering, little dislocations, and overlays resulting in fine lines. Graphical qualities add to painterly ones and emphasize a two-dimensional spatial oscillation. Distinctive surface textures compete with instable picture-interiors.

Similarly, the drawings of Sebastian Rug consist of small structures which combine to form textures, topographies, and plastic formations. The development of phenomena which do not immediately result from the drawing process and whose form cannot be established in advance is constitutive. The drawings evolve from a game with emergence, the spontaneous creation of structures whose concrete form cannot simply be attributed to the simplicity of its isolated elements. The objects are on the threshold of differentiation, yet, they present themselves in a state of emergence as well as dissolution. The imitation of natural forms is only secondary to the attempt of establishing a zone of indistinguishability between artificial and natural structures.
