Traces, a vast installation that replicates the emotional and intimate experience at the core of collective memory
Since his work was first shown here - nearly thirty years ago - Amos Gitai has been recognized the world over as one of the greatest filmmakers of our time. His films, which are dominated by questions of identity and exile as well as memory and history, encourage the public to consider the past and present, the necessity of the transmission of memory, and the role of art. Today at the Palais de Tokyo, the filmmaker pursues his objectives by presenting a vast installation that replicates the emotional and intimate experience at the core of collective memory. Using images taken from a dozen of his films, he imbues the basement with a visual and sonar experience of an exceptional richness.
