TorinOver

Trongate 103, Glasgow

Fourth edition. The theme of the contemporary art event is the environment, its potential and its transfigurations. The works installed, some of which were created especially for the occasion, explore different ideas with regard to the current critical environmental situation, upsetting conventional perspectives, scanning new possible scenarios and drawing conclusions that are at once informative and provocative. This is the first step of a worldwide tour of the exhibition.

The theme of the Fourth edition of the contemporary art event TORINOver is the environment, its potential and its transfigurations. These themes are explored from different points of view in an event promoted by the Città di Torino and organised by Elle Contemporaryprojects - Cultural Association, in collaboration with GTT, the cities of Glasgow, Rotterdam, Salt Lake City and Nagoya.

Despite its "ancient" roots this theme is as vital today as it ever was. And it is essential that we continually underline and reiterate the urgent need to radically change the way in which natural resources are used. This means changing basic living patterns and adopting different mindsets that embrace diverse areas of study and analysis.

The exhibition highlights the importance of a greater awareness of the issues connected with this theme by enlisting the communicative power of creative languages to provoke reflection and bring about action.

The works installed at Trongate 103, some of which were created especially for the occasion, explore different ideas with regard to the current critical environmental situation, upsetting conventional perspectives, scanning new possible scenarios and drawing conclusions that are at once informative and provocative.

Emerging and established international artists have been given the chance to tackle an issue of great topical interest with work for the first host city of Turin installed in the highly evocative setting of San Pietro in Vincoli. As the exhibition tours the work is re configured for four different cities: Glasgow, Rotterdam, Salt Lake City and Nagoya, each with its own culture and particular character.

This edition explores an intriguing diversification in exhibition terms that comes in the form of a new project, 1 year message! This travelling international show reel begins a yearlong trip to different parts of the world, taking with it a chorus of voices and individual visions whose collective message unites around the exhibitions central themes.

TORINOver has grown up out of a project firmly rooted in the Turin area. During past editions it has grown both internationally and intercultural. Now it addresses a broad, cosmopolitan public and is working to build solid links with similar organisations and events so as to be able to enrich cultural offerings while at the same time proposing new cultural and artistic behavioural patterns.
