Range Finding. In Lisa D. Manner's pictorial world events unfold continuously and in the moment. Against a backdrop of art historical references, structures seemingly real yet dreamlike, loom from the dark. Through a kind of gothic everydayness, a connection is made between the unreal and the actual. The paintings stage a present where future and memory can meet.
Peter Bergman is delighted to present Lisa D. Manner’s second solo show at the gallery.

By using fragments from the inner and outer workings of civilization, a painterly collage is constructed. The distortions between the detail and the whole gives agency to the imagery – the daytime sky is black, scale no longer applies – and we see the world through an ancient or perhaps yet-undiscovered visual instrument; at once a telescope and a magnifying glass.
In her new exhibition Range Finding, Lisa Manner finds the frequency of the energy that we live both through and within. The title sets out an attack also, against rigid divisions and established hierarchies. The result is a fragmented reality, where the undercurrents of civilization and personal histories, are suddenly aligned in accordance with the logic of dreams.
