The Kagan Martos Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Antwerp
(MUHKA) are proud to announce the exhibition of Eddy De Vos entitled
" Painting: no more no less". This exhibition will be on view at the MUHKA
from May 28th until August 27th 2000, and will travel afterwards to the
Stedelijc Museum in Roermont Netherlands, from April 20th to September 15th
2001. An eighty page color catalogue of the exhibition will be available on
the 28th of May 2000.
This retrospective exhibition of Eddy De Vos' work will include
approximately eighty paintings and will address the latter part of his
career from 1994 to the present. Eddy De Vos borrows his imagery from a
plethora of images in our media obsessed contemporary society. Beyond
endowing his paintings with fierce visual impact, he adds several layers of
meaning and, at times, a relativistic ironic undertone. Man, with his
particularities and ambiguity occupies a central place in this body of
work, which endears as much as it makes us wonder.
While Eddy De Vos' work has been widely exhibited in Europe, his first Solo
show in the United States was at the Kagan Martos gallery in
November-December 1999. Previously in the U.S. he was featured in a two
person show curated by Clarissa Darymple for D,amelio Terras gallery.
