Dalla tormentata raffigurazione dell’amletica Ofelia di Millais, che canta galleggiando in un fiume prima di annegare, alla condannata eppur aggraziata Lady of Shalott di Waterhouse, l'arte e la poesia hanno percorso una lunga storia. Non dovrebbe perciò sorprenderci di trovare un seminterrato a Milano dove la poesia prende vita. Girasoli in fiore nella più cupa delle notti, volpi affiancate da fenicotteri, là dove la realtà è materia da fiction. Perlomeno ciò è quanto appare alla mano del giovane artista italiano Termine G. Dipingendo nel suo studio, l'artista ventottenne affronta l'estetica, l'introspezione e la tensione tra l’ordinario e l'etereo con un sogno come reminiscenza. Sebbene il suo lavoro più recente sia chiaramente visivo - tutte le tavole e le tele nere sono ornate di scene apparentemente sconnesse e colori provenienti dalla natura: animali, piante, frutta - si ha l'impressione che sulla sua tela questi oggetti quotidiani non possano essere presi alla lettera. È la rievocazione dell’innocua tana del coniglio che conduce Alice verso una terra lontana, la messa in discussione della fiducia che riponiamo in quella sensazione apparentemente irrilevante e strisciante che non tutto è come appare a prima vista, che rende il lavoro di Termine G un imperdibile viaggio per gli occhi.

From Millais’ haunting depiction of Hamlet’s Ophelia, singing whilst floating in a river before she drowns, to Waterhouse’s delicate yet doomed Lady of Shalott, art and poetry have a long history. It should be of no surprise then that there’s a basement in Milan where poetry comes to life. Sunflowers bloom in the blackest of nights, foxes are flanked by flamingos and reality is the stuff of fiction. At least, that’s how it seems at the hand of young Italian artist, Termine G. Painting away in his studio, the 28 year old artist tackles aesthetics, introspection and the tension between the mundane and the ethereal with a dream like resonance. Though his recent work is clearly visual – all black boards and canvases adorned with seemingly disjointed scenes and colours from nature: animals, plants, fruit – one gets the impression that these quotidian objects just can’t be taken at face value on his canvas. It’s the evocation of the innocuous rabbit warren that lead Alice to a far away land, the questioning of the trust we place in the supposedly unremarkable and that creeping feeling that not everything is as it first appeared, that makes Termine G’s work such a head trip to behold.
