Siemens Sanat is discovering young talents of contemporary art for five years through “Borders Orbits”
The “Borders Orbits” competition organized this year again by Siemens Sanat for the fifth time, in order to support young artists and to create a platform for contemporary art. The “Borders Orbits 09” exhibition in which the first installments of artworks that are considered successful from this year's “Borders Orbits 09-10” competition, opened its doors to art lovers at Siemens Sanat on May 13th 2011.
The works of 6 young artists meet with the audience
As a result of rigorous evaluation by the Jury that is constituted of Banu Cennetoğlu, Nilüfer Ergin, Mürteza Fidan, T. Melih Görgün, and Hakan Onur, the “Borders Orbits 09” exhibition includes the works of young talents Ahmet Birol, Hakan Dağdelen, Meltem Işık, Can Kurucu, Ilgın Özer, and Yuşa Yalçıntaş.
Mürteza Fidan, the co-curator of the exhibition, states that young artists whose works take place in the exhibition, place the fluidity of identities rather than the homogeneity of the problem of identity as the zeitgeist of contemporary visual culture into their agendas.
In his work National Ideologic, Ahmet Birol focuses on a media image's becoming a global icon of ideology. In order to render legible the uniforming politics of the gaze from the center to the periphery of the logo of National Geographic as a frame sign, Birol extracts the logo and places it within the exhibition space.
Hakan Dağdelen meets the visitors of this exhibition with his works that call attention to how individuals, who have been molded with pure reason amongst the precepts of modernity, have been alienated from themselves and how they have been putting a distance between content and form in order to cope with their own nature.
With her work titled “Pending”, Meltem Işık puts the spectators face to face with a relative reading of a plastic that is constituted by the countering behaviors of external control and internal reaction of two materials with different characters.
In his works, Can Kurucu presents his own politics of form that focus on the determining ideologies and practices of everyday life within the confusion created by the global turbulence.
Ilgın Özer takes part in the exhibition with her work titled Toxic Shock Syndrome through which she retaliates patriarchal ideology by opposing the abnegation of the subjectivity of women and their confinement through inaction, sexual appeal or self-deprecation.
Yuşa Yalçıntaş, using the typographic system of stencil figure multiplications, presents the lost place which has never existed pertaining to figures ready to vanish sometimes in a narrative, other times within a game.
The “Borders Orbits 09” exhibition can be visited at Siemens Sanat between until June 11th 2011.
