The Stephen Cohen Gallery is honored to announce an exhibition of photographs by photographer Lauren Greenfield.
There will be an opening reception Thursday December 5th from 7-9p.m.
The gallery is located at 7358 Beverly Boulevard and is open Tuesday-Saturday 11-5 and by appointment.
Lauren Greenfield is an internationally reknowned photographer whose work has been exhibited extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and Russia. Her current project, Girl Culture, is an exploration of the secret world of girls, their private rituals as well as the iconic subcultures of the popular cliques, cheerleaders, showgirls, strippers, debutantes, models and actresses. Greenfield reveals the exhibitionist nature of modern femininity and just how far it has drifted from the feminine ideologies of the past. Whether she is exploring the common or the eccentric, Greenfield recounts the ways in which girls are affected and influenced by American pop culture. The combination of subject matter, color and composition results in a tremendously powerful body of work. Girl Culture will be published by Chronicle Books this year.
Lauren Greenfield's work appears regularly in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, National Geographic, Harpers Bazaar and Time. She has received numerous awards and grants, including The Hasselblad Foundation Grant, The Nikon Sabbatical Grant and The National Press Photographers' Community Awareness Award. Her work is in many museum and private collections including The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and The International Center of Photography. She is the author of Girl Culture and Fast Forward: Growing Up in the Shadow of Hollywood (Knopf, 1997) which was a best selling photography book and is currently in development as a feature film at Fox Searchlight Pictures.
