The People Project è iniziato mentre Lucy Keeler era artist-in-residence presso la Macina di San Cresci nel 2008. Durante i due anni successivi il progetto si è sviluppato e arricchito in uno studio del Territorio del Nord dell'Australia. La mostra presenta anche una serie di opere di artisti aborigeni, una raccolta di elevato contenuto artistico e di assoluta originalità, che consente un inconsueto e prezioso contatto con il movimento pittorico contemporaneo degli Aborigeni australiani.

Ognuna di queste opere ha un certificato di autenticità che delinea la storia del dipinto.

L’opera aborigena raffigura sempre antiche storie del dreamtime. Nella mitologia aborigena australiana il “Tempo del Sogno” (Dreamtime) è l’era che precede la formazione del mondo. Per millenni le popolazioni autoctone dell’Australia si sono tramandate oralmente i miti cosmogonici e li hanno raffigurati sulle pareti delle caverne, sulle pietre e sulla corteccia degli alberi. Quest’arte è quasi sempre espressione di messaggi spirituali, religiosi e mitologici e molte opere sono impregnate di valori identitari e ambientalisti, rispecchiando il fedele amore delle genti aborigene per la terra madre e la natura. Tutti gli artisti che hanno realizzato queste opere vivono in regioni remote del deserto.

The People Project began while Lucy Keeler was living as an artist in residence at la Macina di San Cresci during 2008. During the following two years the project has developed and grown in a studio in the Northern Territory of Australia.

The final collection of paintings was previewed in remote northern Australia and will launch at la Macina di San Cresci in Italy, before travelling to Sydney during 2011.

The ability to comprehend one’s own aging process, generates an evolving internal response from every person, regardless of culture, gender or stage of life. Does the topographic map of a person’s face evolve, as it ages, in proportion and accordance with outlook?
The People Project explores the parallel between an individual’s thoughts and the facial contour changes associated with the aging process. The research process has involved interview and survey studies, photography, literary research and topographic facial mapping (a technical study of the geographic contours of the skull and skin, resulting in a detailed map of paths and lines).

Aboriginal work is always depicting ancient 'dreamtime' stories, spiritual ceremonies and vivid patterns of traditional sacred lands. In the Australian Aboriginal mythology, the "Dreamtime" is the era preceding the formation of the world. For millennia, the indigenous peoples of Australia have been handed down orally cosmogonic myths and have depicted them on cave walls, stones and tree bark. This art is almost always an expression of spiritual messages, and many religious and mythological works are imbued with values ​​of identity and environmentalism. The works reflect the true love Aboriginal people have for the land and mother nature. All the artists who created these works live in remote regions of the desert.
