Some of them have not only studied together and hence know each other well, but have also cooperated on different fields and levels.
After having displayed his own work in 2010 guest curator Martin Schmidl now
presents the work of seven colleagues from Munich, Stuttgart and Berlin.
Monika
Baer, Stephan Dillemuth, Cordula Güdemann, Jürgen Kisch, Gunther Reski, Dierk
Schmidt and Marcus Weber have an artistic practice of many years. Some of them have
not only studied together and hence know each other well, but have also cooperated
on different fields and levels. The current exhibition, is also a comment to the
Galerie Traversée programme and a subjective enquiry by the curator with exemplary
artistic attitudes.
The unique tasks of those involved in forming a contemporary concept of realism and
the range of public and private themes which they conduct here is crutial for this
kind of comparison. Although there are some similarities, motivation and goals of
the seven artists differ to a wide extent.
These differences are also to be found in
the various ways of approach, such as constant-painting, a paint-curate-paint,
re-painting, paint-write-paint and occasional painting up to the quotation of
painting as an artistic mean.
On 12 July Helmut Draxler, art theorist and curator, will be at the exhibition for a
statement and a discussion. The reason for the invitation was inter alia his text
Painting as Apparatus / Twelve theses, published last year in Texte zur Kunst (No.77
/ March 2010).
