'Not Worth Reading' will consist, mainly, of examples of Higgs's signature book-page pieces, which he sometimes thinks of as 'found' conceptual art. Not Worth Reading

The Anthony Wilkinson Gallery is pleased to announce Matthew Higgs's second solo exhibition for the gallery.

As with his previous exhibition for the gallery "Not Worth Reading" will consist, mainly, of examples of Higgs's signature book-page pieces, which he sometimes thinks of as 'found' conceptual art. Made from the title pages of second-hand books sourced in antiquarian bookstores and, more recently, via the internet, Higgs's works are decidedly and unapologetically straightforward.

The exhibition will include the following works: "Art For Spastics", "Bad Art", "Art Isn't Easy", "Art For Art's Sake", "Art Matters", "I Married An Artist", "Anyone Can Paint!/Anyone Can Sculpt/Anyone Can Draw", "Collector's Choice", "Art For All", "Art and Language", "Not Worth Reading", "Upside Down", "Frame It!", "Off Centre", "To Die For", "Dead Straight". "Ink On Paper", "One, Two, Three, Four", "Hidden Art", "I Believe In..................." (a collaboration with Bob and Robert Smith), and an out of focus photograph of a book called "Out Of Focus". As a gesture towards the festive season certain areas of the gallery will be painted in the jolly, signature colours of Tate Modern.

Matthew Higgs is an artist, writer and curator who lives and works in California, where he is the Curator at the CCAC Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco. He is also an Associate Director of Exhibitions at the ICA, London. A regular contributor to Artforum, Higgs has recently contributed to catalogues for Rodney Graham (Whitechapel Art Gallery, London) and Dave Muller (Bard College/Hammer Museum, Los Angeles). In January 2003 he will have his second solo show at Murray Guy, New York.

For further information or photographs please ring 020 8980 2662.

Please note gallery will be closed 23 December - 6 January
