The contemporary man’s life today is shaped by the logic of its acceleration, while the wish to stop in the midst of swirling flow of time and reflect upon the speed that we are carried by, its nature and effect, had as a consequence the actualisation of the present moment, the need to be here and now.
The project Time packages has been initiated by the need and wish for establishing a larger presence and recognition of the Serbian artists in the international art scene. The presence of all project participants in Berlin, during the time of the exhibition, presents an essential element of the common experience. The need for networking and permanent updating appears to be one of the prerequisites for survival of local scenes in view of the increasing speed, associated with the global changes of the time we live in.
A curatorial challenge involved creating space for exchange of ideas, opinions and perceptions of time, manifested in the exhibition through new works by six serbian artists. Nevena Popović’s work creates awareness of the fullness of time, nuances of changes and continuity, which most frequently remain unnoticed; Maja Josifović indicates the eternal present written both in past and future and exposes the time as an agreed construction of ours; Isidora Fićović researching the notion of contemporary by asking questions which answers can become outdated already in the next moment; WoO`s sound installation is about repetition and cyclicity connected to subtle changes and interferences; Dimitrije Tadić suggests possibility of existence of parallel universes, linear historical course of time and living in present, by shifting its boundaries in the area of imaginary; Milena Putnik is witnessing the parallel existence of remaining shells of the past and the machines which are occupying the territory, determining the new direction of the time.
